Our Story

Two artists, two friends, partners.  

                   

Based in Los Angeles, Shop + Draw was established in 2018 by husband and wife team Brett and Julie Bean. Working together, Brett is the creative force behind all the designs and Julie turns those designs into fun functional art to wear, hang on the walls, and enjoy. All Shop + Draw products must be: humorous, colorful, playful, subvertive, happy, energetic, thoughtful. Our rule is that if a design doesn't contain two or more of these attributes, we won't make it! You can also find these products and designs at art fairs and conventions such as San Diego Comic Comic Con and Designer Con under Brett's company Drawn To It Studios. Come say hello to us these shows! 

Brett Bean is a character designer, writer, and illustrator. He works in animation, video games, and children's books. His client list includes Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Disney, Scholastic, Penguin Publishing, Riot games, Sony, Dreamworks, Cartoon network, Hasbro, and more. Brett currently teaches character design at CGMA and has taught at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Cartoon Network, LAAFA and hosted workshops all over the world. When not creating art, you will most likely find Brett on a pickle ball court or relaxing in the hammock with a graphic novel. 

Julie Bean is a jewelry designer and video instructor with a background in sales and marketing. Having created over 800 YouTube videos for the jewelry supply company Beadaholique, Julie has taught millions how to create handmade jewelry of their own. Julie's work has also been published in numerous beading magazines. Before becoming a jewelry designer, Julie owned a dollhouse miniature company and created fanciful handmade miniatures. Aside from being overall crafty and managing Shop + Draw, Julie is an avid flea market shopper, gardener, and lover of sweets and wine! 

Together for almost 14 years, Brett and Julie's greatest accomplishment is a smart, silly, and good-natured 4 year old son. Part of the reason Shop + Draw was formed was so that these two parents could spend more time raising their son. As a family the Beans enjoy traveling the world, long days at the beach, and hiking the beautiful mountains around Southern California.
